Premium Afghan saffron threads — a sealed 3 g bottle for the serious home cook. Approximately 750 long, all-red threads of ISO 3632-1:2010 Category I saffron, verified on all tested parameters, from Herat, Afghanistan. The right size if saffron is a regular part of your cooking — Persian rice nights, biryani Sundays, paella for company, a saffron latte on a slow morning.

Per-gram cost is meaningfully better than the smaller bottles, and a 3 g bottle is still small enough to finish before quality drops. How saffron ages →

What you get

  • All-red threads only — no yellow style, no powder, no fillers.
  • Grade: ISO 3632 Category I on all tested parameters (Super Negin tier).
  • Origin: Herat, Afghanistan — direct-sourced from cooperative growers.
  • Harvest year stamped on the base of every bottle.
  • Sealed crystal-clear bottle — peak aroma for about 2 years.
  • Hand-packed at 24 Bassett St, Lynn, MA 01902.
How long 3 g lasts

A weekly-saffron household uses about 0.4–0.6 g per week — so 3 g lasts 5–8 weeks of regular cooking. A heavy user running rice, tea, and the occasional dessert will burn through it in about a month. A casual user could stretch it to 6+ months.

What to make

Everything in our recipe library — Persian tahdig, Afghan kabuli palaw, Hyderabadi biryani, seafood paella, sholeh zard, bastani sonati, kesar kheer, plus saffron tea, lattes, and golden milk. Full recipe library →

FAQ

How does this compare to the 2 g bottle? 50% more saffron at a much lower per-gram price. The economic sweet spot if you cook with saffron 2+ times a week.

Will I finish it before it goes stale? Almost certainly. Most regular cooks finish 3 g in 1–2 months. Even the slowest home cook will finish it well before the 2-year peak-quality mark.

Is 3 g too much for a beginner? Probably yes — start with the 1 g or 2 g bottle to learn how you like to use saffron, then upgrade. 1 g bottle →

An Award-Winning Origin

Harvested in Herat, Afghanistan. Our supplier, Herat Saffron Ltd, was granted the International Taste Institute’s 2026 Superior Taste Award in Brussels for its Afghanistan Herat Saffron, judged by the Institute’s jury of chefs and sommeliers. Herat grows roughly 90% of Afghanistan’s saffron, and its high-altitude fields and hand-harvest tradition are why this origin is sought out by cooks who care what saffron tastes like.

One ingredient, nothing added: 100% pure Afghan Super Negin saffron threads — naturally gluten-free, vegan, and suitable for halal and kosher diets. No additives, no coatings, no fillers.

    Preguntas frecuentes

    How much do I need?

    A pinch is plenty.

Always bloom your threads first — 15 minutes in warm water unlocks color and aroma.

Ordered at eleven at night not expecting anything until Monday. Got the shipping notification before I'd closed the laptop. That's not why I'm writing this though — the saffron is. Threads are long, dark red, no yellow at all. Bloomed it in warm water and it took a good twelve minutes to give up its colour, went proper gold, and the threads were still red when I poured it in. That's what real saffron does.

Finally saffron that actually tastes like saffron
I ordered the 1g bottle to try it before committing to more. The threads are long, all red, no yellow bits, and the smell when I opened the bottle was strong and sweet. I bloomed 5 threads in warm water for my rice and the color and flavor were night and day compared to the grocery-store stuff I used before. Shipped same day fast arrived in 2 days. Already planning to order the bigger bottle.
