Raihan Saffron
≈ 500 hand-separated threads · roughly 30–40 dishes
2025 Herat harvest — year stamped on every bottle
Premium Afghan saffron threads — a sealed 2 g bottle, our most-popular size for serious home cooks. Approximately 500 long, all-red threads of ISO 3632 Category I saffron from Herat, Afghanistan. The right amount for a household that uses saffron weekly: rice, tea, the occasional biryani or paella, with months of headroom.
If you cook with saffron more than a few times a month, this is the size that makes economic sense. Per-gram cost drops about 12% versus the 1 g bottle, and you'll go through it before quality starts to fade. Storage guide →
Bloom 3–5 threads in 2 tablespoons of warm water or milk for 10–15 minutes, then add the entire mixture to your dish near the end of cooking. For tea, 3–4 threads per 8 oz cup. A pinch (about 20–30 threads, ~0.1 g) is enough for a 4-person rice or stew. Dosing chart →
Persian tahdig, Hyderabadi biryani, Afghan kabuli palaw, seafood paella, bastani sonati, Afghan saffron chai — full library at /pages/recipes.
How long will 2 grams last? A weekly home cook gets 3–5 months. A serious cook running rice + tea + occasional dessert burns through it in about 2 months.
Is 2 g enough for a holiday meal? Easily. A full paella for 8 uses about 0.4 g. A biryani for 6 uses 0.2–0.3 g. You'll have plenty left.
Does the bottle lose freshness once opened? Sealed bottle in a cool dry cabinet holds peak flavor for ~2 years even after opening, as long as you reseal it after each use. Don't refrigerate.
