Begin Your Saffron Journey

The Saffron Starter Kit is the easiest way to try premium Afghan saffron. Each kit pairs our two starter sizes — 1 g for tasting and 2 g for everyday cooking — at a bundle price that saves you $14 vs. buying separately.

What's Inside

  • 1 g Tin of Premium Afghan Super Negin Saffron — Hand-harvested all-red threads, ISO 3632 Category I (color strength >240, picrocrocin >70, safranal >20). Roughly 15–20 servings.
  • 2 g Tin of Premium Afghan Super Negin Saffron — Same grade and harvest, larger format for regular cooks. Roughly 30–40 servings.
  • Printed Brewing & Cooking Guide — Step-by-step ratios for saffron tea, rice, desserts, and infusions, included in the kit.

Why a Starter Kit?

Most first-time saffron buyers want to taste before committing to larger tins. The 1 g tin gives you 4–6 weeks of weekly use, and the 2 g tin covers a household for 6–8 weeks. Together, they bridge tasting and everyday cooking at the lowest entry price we offer — and let you decide whether to step up to our 3 g, 5 g, or 10 g sizes later.

Origin & Quality

All threads in this kit are grown in the Herat region of western Afghanistan and hand-harvested in November of the most recent crop year. Each batch is lab-tested for crocin, picrocrocin, and safranal levels before being sealed in food-grade tins.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry, dark place. Properly stored, your saffron will retain peak potency for 2 years from harvest.

Net Weight & Ingredients

Net weight: 3 grams total (1 g tin + 2 g tin). Ingredient: 100% pure Afghan saffron threads (Crocus sativus L. stigmas). No additives, no fillers, no artificial coloring.

    FAQ
How much saffron do I use?

For most dishes, 10 to 15 threads is enough. Bloom in warm water or milk for 5 to 10 minutes before using.

How long will one tin last?

For typical home cooking, 1 gram lasts most households several weeks. Heavy or daily users may go through it faster.

Is this saffron threads or powder?

Whole threads. We do not sell powdered saffron because powder is the easiest place for substitutes to hide.

Do you ship across the U.S.?

Yes. We ship across the United States with tracked delivery. Standard shipping is $8 flat, and orders over $49 ship free.

    How much do I need?

    A pinch is plenty.

Always bloom your threads first — 15 minutes in warm water unlocks color and aroma.

Every tin starts as crocus flowers picked by hand at first light in Herat, Afghanistan — the region many chefs consider the finest saffron terroir on earth. The stigmas are dried the same day, graded to ISO 3632 Category I, then sealed by hand in small batches at our facility in Lynn, Massachusetts. No warehouses, no powder, no blends.
